The beginning of a new school year brings excitement, a bit of stress, and usually some game planning about what we can do to survive the school year as healthy as possible. These 5 Essential Oils are my go-to for my own littles this school year & I'm super excited to share them! So let's get straight to it!
1. Thieves
Beat The Ick!

If you like the idea of less missed school or work, not constantly ending up at the doctor or on tons of medicines every time the seasons change, and no more wasted dollars.. Thieves is the oil for you! This immune system supporting oil contains Clove, Lemon, Rosemary, Cinnamon Bark & Eucalyptus Radiata, There’s an interesting history to this oil. It's believed that it originated in Europe during the time of the Plague with a group of Thieves who discovered a mixture of herbs that allowed them to steal from the homes of people who had died from the Plague and not become sick. They were captured and made to give up the secret of the ingredients, Young Living is the only company providing the delicately crafted, trade-marked, Thieves oil. There's is also the ONLY one approved for internal use as a dietary supplement which is a huge way to experience its benefits. Thieves is something you’ll quickly find to be a staple in your home, especially through the winter months.
Internally: Take it by veggie capsule or in a shot of water or warm tea, when you or one of your children need a boost.
Aromatically: Use 3-5 drops in your Dewdrop diffuser a couple of times each week to stay ahead of the ick, or daily when a household Member first begins showing signs of trouble.
Topically: Dilution with a carrier oil like coconut oil or jojoba oil on younger children is wise. Use 1-2 drops and with carrier oil, massage into bottoms of feet. You can also do this down the spine.
2. Vetiver
Focus Focus Focus!

Focus. This is a hard concept after a summer of fun in the sun & lots of free play, travel, etc. Vetiver is an essential oil that encourages a sense of grounding & stabilizing, allowing us to focus our attention to the task at hand. It has has a calming effect which helps us to remain settled when we need to sit (in class) & pay attention. This is an oil I use when completing work tasks like blogging or holding a meeting, teaching a class, etc. I also use this oil with my own little ones before school, events, homework time, church, etc. You can really use it any time you feel it would help them do their best.
Topically: *This is an oil where truly a little goes a long way. It is very thick & very fragrant.* To apply, I place a 1-2 drops on my palm & gently rub some into their wrists, then rub my palms together to spread it out & lightly go along their shoulders, chest & even on their foreheads with what's left. Many believe the areas known as the chakras are wise places to apply, I agree.
Aromatically: You or your child can use this by inhaling deeply straight from the bottle 2-5 times. Diffuse 2-3 drops in your raindrop diffuser. 1 other great option it to purchase diffuser jewelry for your child (and yourself!). Place 1 drop on the diffuser pad or lava bead, etc rub in or let dry & they'll get to take the scent & benefits with them all day without using it on their skin.
3. Owie
Boo Boos!

Inevitably this school year, your kiddo will take a tumble or have a mishap with crafting or working on a project & you'll need to be ready with a toxin-free, natural option to soothe them & address the "Owie". This Young Living blend, with POWERHOUSE OILS like Idaho balsam fir, Tea tree, Helichrysum, Elemi, Cistus, Hinoki & Clove, will become mom or dad's new BFF. No matter the type of boo boo, my son immediately cries for the Owie oil & smiles with relief when it's on. You can purchase this oil individually or as part of the KidScents Collection which has some other incredibly useful, pre-diluted oils to add to our Momma Toolkit.
Topically: Clean area first, then drop 1-2 drops onto bruises, cuts & scrapes for cleansing & soothing. If necessary, then cover with a bandage. Re-apply daily or more, as needed until healed.
4. R.C.
Breathe Deep!

Young Living's R.C. & Thieves were the 2 oils that showed me why none of the other brands were working for my family & why Young Living was going to be my forever health partner! R.C. is one we do not let go out of stock in our home of respiratory sensitive kids & parents. This one is on the list because it's a winter weather super hero with ingredients consisting of respiratory supportive oils like 3 types of Eucalyptus oils (wowza!), Myrtle, Cypress, Marjoram, Pine, Lavender, Black Spruce, and Peppermint!
Topically: 2-3 drops rubbed into the palms and then onto the chest of yourself or your little ones feels heavenly. We'll do this in the morning before school & at night before bed. You can also make your own chest rub using R.C. & coconut oil. That DIY is coming soon.
Aromatically: Use 3-6 drops in your Dewdrop Diffuser at bedtime or 2 times a day if they need some extra support. Put 3-5 drops into 1 cup of Epsom Salt, you can then either put it into your child's bath to allow them to breathe in the vapors. You can also put this mixture into the bottom of the shower, cover the the drain & turn the shower on hot. Sit nearby in the bathroom with the door shut, with your little one for about 15 minutes. (You can pass the time by rubbing some RC on their chest or singing to them.) Doing this creates a steam room fortified even further with these essential oils. For both of these options, encourage your child to take deep breaths often.
5. Digize
Happy Tummies!

Keep your little ones tummies (and yours) happy with Digize. This one or its sister over in the KidScents Collection (Tummygize) should be in every parent's toolbox! Digize is a blend of digestive system supporting essential oils like ginger, peppermint, tarragon, fennel, anise, lemongrass, juniper & patchouli. The herbs used in this blend from Young Living target the stomach & encourage things to get back in order. When my kids are feeling yucky, this is what I reach for.
Topical: With Digize, dilute 1-2 drops with a carrier oil like coconut or jojoba oil & rub onto their belly every hour, as needed.
Internally: If you've got an older child, you can use as a dietary supplement which means you can take it internally. For my daughter (age 8), I'll give her 2 drops in a veggie capsule since the flavor is pretty strong. If you add 1-2 drops to a shot of water with a drop of Peppermint essential oil, it eases the flavor a bit & is easier for picky kiddos to handle.
